Since being reorganized in 1989, the Altoona Area High School Alumni Association has grown dramatically and now has more than 4,200 members living throughout the United States.

The Alumni Association has several important goals:

  • To build friendship and cooperation among graduates of Altoona Area High School.
  • To assist graduating classes as they prepare for upcoming reunions and to help individual alumni maintain contact with each other and the Altoona Area School District.
  • To encourage alumni support of the school district's educational program through donations to the AASD Foundation.
  • To maintain and enhance the prestige and tradition of AAHS.

A growing membership base and successful fund-raising efforts have enabled the 27-member Alumni Council to complete an impressive list of projects and activities.

  • Each spring the Alumni Association awards ten $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who will pursue higher education. Since 1994, 105 scholarships totaling $70,450 have been awarded.
  • A museum with more than 300 artifacts, photos, school publications, yearbooks and other memorabilia has been established in the Altoona Area Public Library.
  • The Alumni Association provides $1,000 each year for a classroom project funded by the AASD Foundation.
  • Commemorative identification badges for the After-Glo are purchased each year.
  • The Association purchases ads in the football, basketball, wrestling and hockey programs.
  • The Association supported the AAHS Student Assistance project to benefit needy families during the holidays.
  • The Association organizes bus trips for members and guests. A trip to New York City is planned for Saturday,
    December 4.
