Mountain Lion and Lady Lion athletes representing a variety of sports are taking advantage of the new Sheetz Athletic Training Center at Mansion Park.

The 3600 square-foot facility opened in August. It features an extensive array of weight-training equipment including eight-foot power racks, Olympic platforms, adjustable benches, two-tier dumbbell racks, dip attachments, etc.

A $507,000 gift from the Sheetz family helped the school district create this much-needed facility which will help athletes get bigger, faster and stronger.

The donation was given in memory of Joseph M. Sheetz, a 1963 AHS graduate, who passed away three years ago.

The existing weight room, located under the west grandstands, will be converted into a new team room and coaches’ office complex at the conclusion of the football season. Robert Sill, a 1953 Altoona High graduate from Washington Crossing, PA, has pledged his financial support for this project.
