No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

PDE Academic Achievement Report: 2003-2004

Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) as part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), makes schools accountable to students, their parents, teachers, and the community.

The purpose of AYP is to ensure that all students have reading and math skills that prepare them for the future. This law states that all students must reach the Proficient level or above in Reading and Mathematics by 2014.

School districts and schools must show Adequate Yearly Progress in several measurable indicators: attendance or graduation, academic performance, and test participation.

To view AASD's Overall Performance in 2003-2004 and Student Group Performance by Grade and Subject, click here.

To view the 2003-2004 results for your child's specific school, go to www.paayp.com, enter the school your child attends and review the AYP results.

Every year, millions of teens work in part-time or summer jobs. Early work experiences can be rewarding for young workers – providing great opportunities for teens to learn important work skills. Today’s youth will be the workforce of the 21st Century. One of my priorities for the U.S. Department of Labor is to assist America’s youth in preparing to enter that workforce.

Through the new YouthRules! initiative, the U.S. Department of Labor and its strategic partners seek to promote positive and safe work experiences for young workers. The YouthRules! web page and activities will educate teens, parents, educators, employers and the public on Federal and State rules regarding young workers – the hours youth can work, the jobs youth can do. The YouthRules! initiative will also help teens and employers work together to ensure safe work experiences.   ---Elaine L. Chao, Secretary of Labor
