AASD SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM BEGINS JUNE 8

The Altoona Area School District will operate its annual Summer Food Service Program from June 8 through July 24.

Meals will be available free-of-charge for preschool and school-age children, 18 years of age or younger. There is no discrimination in the course of the food service.

Breakfast will be served Monday through Friday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at eight locations: Altoona Area High School; Juniata, Washington-Jefferson; Irving; Logan; Penn-Lincoln and Wright elementary schools; and Evergreen Manor.

The summer food sites will be closed, July 3-6.

All meals follow USDA school lunch guidelines to insure that they contain protein, fruit, vegetables, bread and milk. As this is a federal program, funding is dependent on student participation.

Parents will again be permitted to purchase meals when they accompany their children to the food service program sites. Breakfasts are $1.75 and lunches are $3.

All eligible children have equal access to the benefits of the Summer Food Service Program regardless of family income, race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. Any person who believes that he or she has been discriminated against in any USDA-related activity should contact the Secretary of Agriculture, Washington, DC 20250.

Additional information can be obtained by calling 946-8270.
