Directions for installing Netscape Communicator Internet Access Edition

(Win 95)


1. Start Windows 95 or Windows NT and close all open applications.
2. Place the Netscape Communicator CD in your cd rom drive.
3. The installer screen will appear automatically.

4. Click the Netscape Communicator button. The Communicator setup screen appear.
5. Click Next to begin the install process
6. Click Yes to agree to the Netscape License Agreement
7. Choose 'Typical' setup type. (If you are an advanced user you may select Custom, but these directions do not necessarily support the custom choice)
8. Accept the default installation directory.
9. You may get a message stating that Netscape is no longer registered to handle internet shortcuts. If you do, Click Yes to register Navigator as your default browser. Otherwise, proceed to next step.
10. Click Next
11. Click Next to accept default program folder "Netscape Communicator"
12. Click Install to start copying files.
13. You may be prompted to insert your Windows 95 cd rom to install additional software such as dial-up networking. <<NOTE: If your computer came loaded with Win 95 you may not need to insert your cd rom. Try clicking OK - you will then be prompted for the location of Win 95 files. Type c:\windows\options\cabs If this does not work, you will need your Win95 cd rom. If your Win95 cd rom is in the drive and it still can't find the files, you way have to tell it where to look for your Win95 cd rom. This will usually be d:\win95 (or whatever drive letter is assigned to your cd rom).>>
14. If at any time you get a Version Conflict Message stating that "A file being copied is older then the file currently on your system", just click Yes to keep the newer file.
15. If your modem drivers were not already installed, your computer will find your modem and take you through an installation wizard. If you have trouble with this section, you may need to contact your modem or computer manufacturer for the proper modem drivers (or just try selecting a 'standard' modem driver.
16. If dial-up networking wasn't already installed on your system, you will be prompted at some point for a computer name, workgroup, and computer description. You can type in your username for computer name, aasdcat for workgroup, and leave the computer description blank.
17. You will get a message asking if you want to view the readme file. Click No.
18. You will get a message stating that the Netscape installation is complete. Click OK
19. You will be prompted to restart your computer. Select the restart your computer option.



After your computer has rebooted perform the following steps to use Account Setup:
1. (Win 95) From the Start menu choose Programs, and then choose Netscape Communicator. From the submenu, choose Netscape Account Setup. (This will start Communicator - takes a few minutes to start)
2. If the computer prompts you that Netscape is no longer registered to handle internet shortcuts, or that there are no other browsers setup in the registry, and asks if you would like to register Communicator as the default browser answer YES.
3. Click the Start Account Setup button
4. Click Account Setup
5. "Your Internet Service Provider" screen will appear. Select "I already have an internet account"
6. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select "none of the above"
7. Click Next
8. "Preparing to Setup Access" screen will appear. Click Next again
9. Enter your name (and your organization name if applicable, otherwise you may leave organization name blank)
10. Click next
11. The "Account Access Phone Number" screen will appear. Enter 940-6942 for the number
12. Click Next
13. Enter your login name: ________________________
14. And password: ________________________ (note: password are case sensitive) You will have to type your password a second time to confirm.
15. DO NOT check the box entitled (I would like terminal window….)
16. Click Next
17. You will be prompted for your Email login and password. This will already be entered because it is the same as your login name and password - so just click next.
18. Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: mail.alt3.com
19. Incoming Mail Server: mail.alt3.com
20. 'pop' should be selected - NOT 'imap'
21. leave Newsgroups (NNTP) blank
22. Click Next
23. Domain Name: aasdcat.com
24. Primary DNS server address: 209.158.4.50
25. Secondary DNS server address: 151.201.0.37
26. Click Next
27. Current modem you are using should already be selected. If not select the proper modem which is installed in your computer. If your modem is not listed, click on Modem Setup.
28. Click Next
29. If you have call waiting and touch tone dialing on the line you use to dial-in to us, then select *70, from the right hand drop down list. If you have call waiting and pulse dialing, select 1170, from the right hand drop down list. If you do not have call waiting, select 'line doesn't have call waiting' from drop down list.
30. 'access an outside line by dialing' should be blank unless you are calling from a business that must dial an additional number before dialing an outside line (such as 9)
31. Select 'Tone' or 'Pulse' depending on the type of service you have. Most users should select 'Tone'. If you are unsure select 'Tone'.
32. Click Next
33. The "Phone Number of Your Location Screen" will appear. Enter the phone number of the line you are using to dial-in to us.
34. Click Next
35. You are finished! Either click 'Connect Now' or 'Done'
36. An icon will appear on your desktop entitled Dial 'username's' Account. To connect to us just double click this icon - Then be sure your username and password are entered correctly and click Connect.
