STEAM Education at McAuliffe Heights

Teachers at the McAuliffe Heights Program at Irving Elementary school are starting to make STEAM education, (Science Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) an integral part of the daily classroom experience for all students kindergarten through 6th Grade.

Kids Helping Kids at Baker Elementary

Baker Elementary students took the challenge and collected 301 boxes of cereal as part of Kids Helping Kids. Start to finish, the kids collected the cereal and packed up the boxes for donation to St. Vincent DePaul.

Students at the Altoona Area High School are experiencing a change in Physical Education. The curriculum recently has changed to a health and wellness approach that helps promotes the importance of physical activity and living a healthy lifestyle.

Cold and Flu Season Fast Approaching

With the start of a new school year and the fall season approaching, it is a time when viruses such as colds and flu increase. Hand, Foot and Mouth disease is another common virus among children and is characterized by fever, sores in the mouth and a skin rash with blisters.
The following are some tips for staying healthy that can be found on the Mayo Clinic Website:
• Wash hands frequently
• Use hand sanitizer
• Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze
• Keep your hands away from eyes and out of your mouth
• Do not share water bottles or food
And as always, eating healthy and getting enough rest helps to keep the immune system strong. Parents are encouraged to talk to their child about these tips and other ways to stay healthy.
