Music

Philosophy

The Elementary Music Program provides for students growth in understanding of musical development of the elements of music - duration, pitch, structure, timbre and expressive controls.

The place of music in the curriculum of a school system is validated not by the quantity of musical activities but by the quality of the musical experiences made available to children.

We must recognize our obligation to improve this quality as children's experiences continue. It is through singing, moving, listening, creating, and playing instruments that students will be able to explore all aspects of music.

The musical value of these experiences will enable the students to discover: what music is, what in music is most enjoyable to them, their own aptitudes and skills.

A constant factor in the Music Program is the dedication of the staff and the determination of the music department to provide a sound music education for all elementary children through pleasurable and rewarding musical experiences.
