AASD Response to Recent Threat Reports

Earlier today, there was a verbal altercation between students in the Junior High School cafeteria.   Principals were made aware of the situation, spoke with students involved and handled the situation accordingly. Throughout the evening, we received several reports of concern through social media and reports made to the Safe2Say Hotline of one student’s threat to bring a gun to the Junior High School tomorrow.  This information was shared with the 911 Call Center. An Altoona Police Department officer along with an APD detective and school district officials were dispatched to the student’s residence.  After speaking with the student and his family, it was determined there was no intended threat to the students at the Junior High School and the situation is being handled by school district administration and staff. All school operations will be normal tomorrow.  If you have additional concerns, please feel free to contact the office of the Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Brad Hatch, at 946-8218.
