AAJHS Water Break Update - February 16th

February 16, 2026 3:00 PM

We wanted to provide our families a status update to the AAJHS sprinkler line break that occurred last week.  Normal operations will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, February 17, 2026 with all students and staff returning to in-person learning.

First, I wanted to thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigated the necessary clean up efforts.  These things never happen at convenient times and the response from the entire District staff, students and parents was greatly appreciated.  A big thank you to the outside vendors who have been working diligently throughout the week to get us back up and ready for students and staff to return to class tomorrow.

It is important to note that the sprinkler line break was confined to a custodial storage room containing toilet paper, paper towels, light bulbs, cardboard boxes, and similar supplies. All materials that were exposed to water have been discarded. No water leaked onto any cafeteria equipment.

As you know, the water break occurred at arrival on Monday morning, February 9, 2026.  By 2:45 p.m., no standing water remained and by 5:00 p.m., ServPro was on site to take over extraction and clean up.

Throughout the week we have:

  • Removed all affected drywall, insulation, and ceiling tiles.
  • Krater Electric installed, tested and confirmed the operation of electrical devices in the cafeteria.
  • Krater Electric installed, tested and confirmed affected floor electrical outlets.
  • All of the Air Filtration Devices, dehumidifiers, and the desiccant unit have been running since Tuesday. ServPro monitored the operation of the equipment daily.
  • Carpet and sanitizing began Monday, February 16.
  • Air Quality Tests (AQTs) were conducted by Mountain Research, LLC, Monday February 16 and samples were delivered to a lab in Latrobe, Pa to be analyzed.
  • Results: “Air Quality results looked very good and are considered normal.”

Ongoing construction and repair efforts will continue; however, this work will be completed during non-student hours as to not interrupt the school day.

If you have any specific concerns or questions, please feel free to contact me at 814-946-8350.  We look forward to the return of our students and staff tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Brad Hatch

AASD Superintendent
