Student Registration
Eligibility
All students who reside within the boundaries of the Altoona Area School District are eligible for enrollment in district schools. The district accepts tuition students from outside its boundaries and operates a summer school program for high school students that is open to all students in Blair County.
Only the natural parent or court-appointed guardian may register a student for the Altoona Area School District. Please contact the Student Registration Office if you need assistance with online registration or have any questions.
Kindergarten and First Grade
According to the Pennsylvania School Code, a child who is five years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year is eligible to attend kindergarten. Children enrolling in first grade must also be six years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year.
All students who are new to the Altoona Area School District are reminded to register at the Altoona Area School District Student Registration Office prior to the start of the new school year.
Kindergarten Online Registration is now available!
All new student registrations K-12 are conducted through online application submission.

Registering a Student
New Family
If you do not currently have a child enrolled in the Altoona Area School District, please enroll your child(ren) using the instructions provided below. Parents and guardians will need to request an account before they can enroll students.
If you are enrolling more than one student, after completing the initial enrollment, select the “Click to Enroll Additional Students” button to enroll additional students
Existing Family
If you have other children already enrolled in the Altoona Area School District, please use your existing Skyward Parent Access Account to enroll your new student.
Upon submitting the online form, please call the Student Registration Office within 3 business days to set up an appointment in order to complete the enrollment process. The enrollment process will not be valid unless this step is completed.
Online Registration Alternative
Online registration is strongly encouraged to ensure the quickest and easiest process. If you prefer not to register online, paper forms are available and will be accepted.
Kindergarten Registration Packet
ABC - Awesome Beginnings Camp
A Pre-Kindergarten readiness program that will enhance your child academically, socially, and physically, as well as aid his or her transition into Kindergarten.
The Awesome Beginnings Camp will be held for incoming kindergarten students to the 2026-27 school year from Monday, August 3, 2026, through Friday, August 7, 2026. Camp begins at 9:00 am, and dismissal will begin at 11:45 am.

Work Permits
To obtain a work permit, it is recommended that the Student or Parent/Guardian call the Registration Office to set up an appointment. Please complete the online application form before visiting the Student Registration Office.
If the student qualifies, an email will be sent to set up an appointment time to sign the official work permit. This email will also outline any required documents
To initiate the work permit process, please print and complete the required form below. Once finished, email the document directly to the Student Registration Office. You will be notified via email when the permit is prepared and ready for the student's mandatory signature.
Charter School Student Enrollment Verification
In November 2025 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania enacted Act 47 of 2025, amending School Code in the State. The new legislation modified the requirements of students and families attending Cyber School Programs. The parent or guardian of a student enrolled in a cyber charter school must submit continued proof of the student's residence to the cyber charter school and the student's school district of residence by November 1 and by March 1 of each school year.
The March 1, 2026 deadline is quickly approaching. We are encouraging all families to gather the appropriate information, complete the required form, and submit to the Cyber School contact person for signature. Following completion, a copy of the form and accompanying proof of residency must be submitted to the Altoona Area School

The Pennsylvania Department of Education developed a notification form which requires the following:
- The name, home address and mailing address of the student.
- The grade in which the student is being enrolled.
- The date the student will be enrolled.
- The name and address of the cyber charter school and the name and telephone number of a contact person able to provide information regarding the cyber charter school.
- The signature of the parent or guardian and an authorized representative of the cyber charter school.
- Proof of residency, which shall be a document containing the parent or guardian's name and address, on any of the following:
- An active residential lease agreement or a mortgage statement no more than three months old.
- A bank statement no more than three months old or a utility or Internet bill no more than three months old.
- A tax bill no more than three months old.
- An insurance document no more than three months old.
- Any other document determined acceptable by the department.
