Altoona Area School District Elementary Summer Book Club

A Summer Book Club will be offered to all Altoona Area School District elementary children July 2 through July 27 from 11:15 AM – 12:15 PM at each of the eight elementary schools.
Coordinated by Americorps teachers, the Summer Book Club is a planned summer reading book exchange/club designed to encourage students in the community to read over the summer. It will provide an opportunity for children to experience literacy in a fun way. Children will have a library of books to select to read on site or take home. The Club will include weekly themes, guest readers, raffles and a chance for a Grand Prize basket.
This is a FREE program and will operate at the following locations:
• Monday-Wednesday-Friday: Baker Elementary, Juniata Elementary, Logan Elementary & McAuliffe Heights Program at Irving Elementary
• Tuesday-Thursday: Juniata Gap Elementary, Ebner Elementary, Penn Lincoln Elementary, and Pleasant Valley Elementary.

Free Meals for Children in the Summer

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) offers free, nutritious meals to children 18 years and younger during the summer when school is not in session.

SFSP is a federal child nutrition program. There are approximately 2500 locations throughout Pennsylvania that serve breakfast, lunch and /or snacks. Many of the locations provide activities as well. Click header for more details.

Fall Athletic Screenings Scheduled July 26th

AAJHS and AAHS students who wish to participate in Fall athletics are required to get a physical. Athletic screenings will be provided by the District according to the schedule. If a student is unable to attend the scheduled time, they may attend the alternate date.

Lady Lions Basketball Camp

The Lady Lions' coaching staff and the Altoona Lady Lion players will be conducting this year's Altoona Lady Lions' Basketball Camp!
We are all anxious to work with all of our young campers teaching them the fundamentals and spirit of the game.

AAHS Science Instructor Recognized

AAHS Environmental Science teacher, Mrs. Tess Rubine, was the 2018 recipient of the Daisy S. Klinedinst Memorial Award by the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Educators. Nominated by fellow educator, Season Consiglio, this award recognizes an educator with fewer than five years of experience who show dedication to expanding their involvement with environmental education.
