AAJHS & AAHS Private Transport Reminders

AAJHS & AAHS parents who drop off and/or pick up their children are strongly encouraged to use the designated drop off and pick up locations. Please be patient and alert when driving around the schools before and after school as traffic is heavy during these times.

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

Good News! The USDA has granted a waiver allowing all students access to one free breakfast and one free lunch daily during the 2021-2022 school year.
Even with free meals for all students it is important to complete a Free and Reduced Price School Meals Application. Why? First, it may benefit your household if the P-EBT program is extended to the upcoming school year. Your child may qualify for discounts on college application fees or college entrance exam fees. Additionally, it will assist in securing funding for our school district.

Exploring the Night Sky with Lasers - Fort Roberdeau Historic Site

Neil Armstrong Planetarium and the Mt. Lion Observatory announce an upcoming event:
Friday, September 24th, 7:30PM: Exploring the Night Sky with Lasers + Stars of the Colonials
This event was re-scheduled from August, a double feature of our two most popular programs from the previous summer! While the evening officially begins at 7:30PM, guests 18 and over may purchase their own night sky laser on a first-come, first-serve basis, so bring your blankets and lawn chairs early!

Low-income families still have time to sign up for advance child tax credit payments

The IRS urges anyone who normally isn't required to file a tax return to explore the tools available on The Eligibility Assistant can help determine eligibility for the advance child tax credit. The Non-filer Sign-up tool can help people file a simplified tax return to sign up for these payments. Some non-filers may also be eligible for the $1,400 per person Economic Impact Payments and the recovery rebate credit. People can get these benefits, even if they don't work, have no income or don’t have a permanent address.

Mask Exemption Status Update

Mask Exemption status update:

On Tuesday evening, the Altoona Area School Board voted to extend the time frame to present a doctor’s note regarding a medical diagnosis for a student’s exemption from a wearing a mask to ten (10) school days (September 21, 2021). The doctor note is to only confirm an existing medical condition that warrants an exemption. Also, parents are still required to complete the district exemption form.

AASD Remembers

The Altoona Area School District is encouraging everyone to wear RED, WHITE AND BLUE on Friday, September 10th to remember the thousands of innocent victims and first responders who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

PA School Vaccination Requirements

Parents are reminded that vaccinations are required for entrance, 7th Grade and 12th Grade. If a child does not have all the required doses within the first five days of school, the child risks exclusion. Please be sure your child has the appropriate doses.
